about the project:
This six story senior living apartment building over a subterranean parking garage contains 72 apartment units including 12 deluxe 3 bedroom units with fantastic views of the Welsh Mountains to the south. This building is the first in central Pennsylvania to utilize the alternating or staggered truss system in lieu of masonry bearing walls for supporting the precast concrete floor planks. The alternating truss system had several advantages for the project which included labor and time savings during construction, a lighter overall structure which translated to savings in the building foundations and the ability to clear-span the parking garage and avoid the use of columns in this space.
